Celebrating 7 Years With Dealer Dicker Day & You!

Can you believe it's been nearly 7 years since Fargo Antiques & Repurposed Market was born?!

Thanks to you and your support, The Farm has survived the risky first years of a new business as well as road construction on 52nd Avenue and the pandemic. And, again, thanks to you, we're thriving - we've been honored to be named your favorite antique spot by winning Best Antique Mall in the Red River Valley two years in a row - 2020 and 2021! (We're hoping to make it the hat-trick this year!)

Yes, we have a lot to celebrate! And we want to celebrate with you!

Picture

Officially, our anniversary date is October 15th, but, as many Farm Friends know, we've traditionally celebrated in September with a flea market. But as The Farm is always dropping the fresh finds and fun, we've decided to celebrate with something new: Dealer Dicker Day.

What's a Dealer Dicker Day? Well, it's your chance to wheel & deal with our vendors on the items you want! This includes making offers on multiple items from the same seller, something you might recognize from American Pickers as a "Frankie bundle."

Whether it's a grouping of glass, a passel of pottery, a bale of TMNT action figures, a herd of Breyer horses, or a flock of seagulls (figurines, wall decor, or the band on vinyl or cassette tape!), you can make a bundle deal!

Way better than just a straight percentage off, right?! And, unlike at an auction where more talking means the prices go higher, dickering is all about the friendly negotiation of prices both buyer & seller are happy about.

Speaking of talking...

With all of the mall's vendors on site, this is also an excellent time for you to meet our vendors.

Typically, those who rent a booth space only work one day a month at the antique mall and those who rent cases don't have any work days at all - which makes the odds of you meeting the person behind your favorite booth or case pretty random and slim. But on Dealer Dicker Day at The Farm you can meet just who finds and curates the items you love at The Farm!

When: Dealer Dicker Day is Saturday, September 17th, from 10am until 6pm.
Where: Fargo Antiques & Repurposed Market,  5258 51st Ave. S. in Fargo, ND.

We hope this will be our first annual Dealer Dicker Day - but, as with most things at The Farm, this has a lot to do with you! We hope you will come join us this Saturday, September 17th. We are really looking forward to meeting and dickering with you!

PS This event is free and no tickets are necessary - but you can RSVP via Eventbrite or Facebook if you'd like! (And we love sharing!)

The Farm's Annual June Flea Market!

Our annual June flea market is this weekend - Saturday, June 18th, and Sunday, June 19th - and this is the BIGGEST one yet!

Mall-wide sales inside & a flea market & other fun set up outside in the parking lot!

There will be amazing barbecue from Puff The Magic Potbelly, the VFW Post 762 will be there selling beer, and we will have live music!

Saturday, from 11am - 3pm, local favorite Smith & Loven Six String Circus will perform - and they always bring the fun!

Sunday, the Bluegrass Association of North Dakota, aka B.A.N.D, returns to the Farm with a live jam starting at 1pm!

In addition to some of our Farm family vendors selling outside, we also have vendors which are new to the Farm - including local artists and makers Eckoe Moore & Beyond Love & Light Work as well as vintage from Sarah’s Closet and Gatherings Collective.

The only thing missing is you - so we hope to see you there! (And please do share!)

Saturday, June 18th, and Sunday, June 19th. The fun starts at 10am each day & the antique mall will be open until 6 pm.

Best Antique Shop of the Red River Valley - Two Years In A Row!

Thanks to all of you, The Farm was voted the Best Antique Shop of the Red River Valley for the second year in a row!
Picture
As the winner of the InForum's annual Best of the Red River Valley competition, we were asked a few questions. Not all of them were printed in the publication, so we thought we would share them here.

What makes what you do special to customers? How do you define customer service?

All vendors at The FARM strive to keep a clean shop while providing the unique antique, vintage, repurposed, decorator, and collectible items our customers are looking for. Customer service is all about providing attentive personal experiences for our visitors, our Farm Friends.

What's the most memorable moment of the past year for your or your team?

Honestly, our business is built on daily memorable moments… Helping a sister find candlesticks for her sister’s wedding, watching as older men become little boys when they spot their childhood toys, helping someone replace a broken item or find the perfect gift, assisting the woman who turns a corner and cries seeing that picture just like the one grandma had, aiding in the discovery of a vintage vinyl score, sharing in the happiness that Farm Friends feel when they bring a friend into the mall for the first time… These connections are so important to us.

What's new for your business? What should people know about your business and what you do?

Daily we bring in fresh finds, reorganize, redecorate, to keep the mall an inspiring, fun place to visit. We had just started our events program when the pandemic hit, and are looking forward to returning to those connections with our customers and local non-profit organizations.

How do you plan on defending your title next year?

To remain focused on what we do best: Providing unique items and great customer experiences in a clean shop while being an active part of the Red River Valley community.

Thank you, again, for voting us number one! We hope to see you at The Farm soon!

Halloween: Where The Past & Future Mix At The Farm

Fargo Antiques & Repurposed Market, aka The FARM, mixes the past with the future this Halloween season by offering live tarot readings at the antique mall!

Along with the usual antique, vintage, & historical items, there will be more unusual finds, including handmade scented “Horror Film” candles, rare Halloween blow mold figures, uranium glass, vintage x-rays, and other hard-to-find oddities. And the Holiday Hayloft will be open too.

he Farm will mix the past with the future too by offering live tarot card readings from local expert Bonnie Bee. Bonnie Bee is an intuitive tarot card reader with over 40 years of experience. Her clairsentient ability was passed down to her through her mother, who was also a tarot card reader. A five-card tarot spread reading with Bonnie Bee will be just $10.
Picture
The Halloween festivities begin on October 21st, Thursday night, at 5:30 pm, with a special seasonal shopping atmosphere created with special lighting.

Kristi Bixby, the owner of the antique mall, says, “When the overhead lights are off in the building, the antique mall has an almost magical ambiance from the glow of lights in the individual booths. Halloween season is the perfect time to showcase such a mood."

On Saturday, October 23rd, Bonnie Bee will return to offer more tarot readings from noon until 4 pm.

We hope you'll stop in for a spell!

All About Cottage Paint

Since Fargo Antiques & Repurposed Market first opened its doors in October of 2015, we've carried Cottage Paint. Many of you know & love Cottage Paint - as you should! But we thought it was time to tell you more about what Cottage Paint is and why it is so great to work with.
Picture
Cottage Paint is both a chalk paint and a clay paint. It is made with both clay and chalk components, providing a  flat, matte, chalky, velvety-aged, time-worn finish that so many love.

And there are practical reasons to love this furniture paint too.
  • It's easy to apply & has great adhesive properties. So great, in fact, that as long as the surface you wish to paint is clean, sealed, and sound, there is no need to strip, sand, or prime. That's right, no stripping, no sanding, no priming with this paint! You can directly apply Cottage Paint directly over any varnished or lacquered surface.
  • Cottage Paint is creatively flexible. It can be used with stencils, mixed for specific color combinations, applied in multiple layers of colors for unique distressed effects, used to create marble & antiqued effects - the possibilities are nearly endless!
  • Quick drying. A coat of Cottage Paint dries in one hour.
  • Once dry, Cottage Paint can easily be distressed with just a damp cloth. This means no need to use sandpaper! And no sandpaper means no harm to the furniture’s fine detailing and sharp edges. Plus, simply distressing with just a damp cloth means that you and your home can escape the air born dust and mess of sanding.
  • This paint leaves a flat porous surface, requiring a protective top coat - and opening up a world of possibilities for decorative finishes, including waxes, varnishes, and glazes.

Simply put, Cottage Paint takes all the best qualities of milk paint, chalk paint, and clay paint - combining them into an inexpensive and easy to use, no fuss medium for renewing and restoring your furniture, cupboards, frames, and other creative DIY decor projects.

Whether your decorator look is shabby chic, country, cottage, rustic, farmhouse, bohemian - or you're simply a fan of vintage and antique looks, and you want more of that worn, weathered, homespun, casual feel of lived-in charm, Cottage Paint is the key. And an easy to use key at that!

The FARM is proud to be one of the very few places in the region to carry a complete range of Cottage Paints - from furniture paints and supporting decorative finishes, to other DIY furniture paint essentials. And we now carry Cottage Paints in our online shop - you can purchase online & pick it up in the store or make curb-side arrangements!

Posted below is our complete Cottage Paint color chart - if we do not have a color in stock, contact us to order it!

Learn How To Make A Junk Journal At The Farm!

Fargo Antiques & Repurposed Market is super excited to announce our first DIY events: Junk Journal Workshops with Lil Muske!
Picture
Part of our January is National Hobby Month events lineup, these workshops are like a Junk Journaling 101 - an introduction to the basics of making your very own junk journal. And, yes, you will leave the workshop with your very own handmade junk journal book!

For those who don’t know much about junk journals, they are similar to scrapbooks - with the major difference being that junk journals are handmade books primarily made with found & recycled (or repurposed) materials. As such, the process makes the books a combination of paper (or mixed media) arts and journaling, whether that journaling is for the written word, drawing or doodling, photos, or some combination thereof.

Picture
Picture
In the words of Chelle, the creator of Art Journalist, a junk journal is “a book which is often made through found and recycled materials to be used as a way to collect and record memories, thoughts, ideas, and inspiration.”

If you’ve ever enjoyed flipping through vintage scrapbooks, you’ll love junk journals!

Picture
Picture
Shown above are some old scrapbooks as seen in Scrapbooks: An American History by Jessica Helfand.

Below are some pages from one of Zelda Fitzgerald’s scrapbooks, described by Jessica Helfand as “a series of marvelous makeshift collages that combine fund matter with drawing & writings,” and a “compendium of letters, photographs, clippings, reviews, invitations, gossip, and idle chatter.”

Yummy!

Who knows, one day, someone may be as enchanted by turning the pages of your junk journal as many of us are looking at Zelda Fitzgerald’s scrapbook!

Picture
Because you create junk journals, the books are as individual as you are. Junk Journals can be shades of vintage ivory & white, full of crazy wild pop art color, soft & romantic - they can be about journaling your travel, planning your wedding, documenting your life - or your pets’!

Other junk journal ideas include, family reunion or other event gifts, gratitude journals, and motivational goal journals (equal parts workbook, journal, & planner). The possibilities in themes and purpose are as endless as your creativity & materials!

Instead of buying an artsy journal, fancy leather notebook, scrapbook, or blank book, you can make your own junk journal at the Farm!

In our Junk Journal Workshops, Lil Muske will walk you through the basics of making your own journals - you will leave with a bound book to continue your journaling fun!

There are a few books available to buy on how to make a junk journal, as well as video guides and tips, but in our hands-on workshop, you can ask questions as you are making one!

Of course, at Farm we have lots of old paper, ephemera, ribbons, bits & bobs to continue embellishing your journal - and start new ones.

These are Junk Journaling 101 Workshops, but those who enjoy making them may want to come along for the time to get their DIY on - & it’s a great way to introduce your friends to the junk journaling magic!

There are 2 dates for the Junk Journal Workshops, and seating is limited, so please reserve your spot today at our Eventbrite page!
